If you are having trouble running these locomotives without hang-ups in the simulator(when a scene's content exceeds what the simulator can render at one time), try using the main shape file of one of the trailing units, instead of the lead unit shape file. The difference is the trailer shape doesn't have crew figures inside the cab, and they use less sim resources. First delete the lead unit's main Shape file( the larger of the two inside the folder). Now Copy & Paste a trailing unit's shape file into the lead unit's folder and rename it as needed.

Locomotive Lights - January 22, 2006
We are in the process of updating the lighting on most of our locomotives The simulator has a limited lighting capacity that can be overloaded by too many of our locomotives in the simulator at one time.

Simulator lighting includes track signals that can be knocked out by too many 'running' lights from 'out of service' locomotives that are in competition with those signal lights. An 'out of service' locomotive includes any locomotive that is not in your train, but somewhere else on the route.

The running lights that need to be tagged in the engine file as 'out of service', are any classification, marker, step, crosswalk, frame, truck, or any other similar lights. The updates won't eliminate these lights, but rather give them a lower priority in the simulator. These lights will be on when a locomotive(s) is in your train, and off when it's not.

This will save your route's track signal lighting and also allow you to use lots of idle locomotives and traffic trains in your activities.

Here's an example of what we are going to change in the engine file's lighting section, should you not feel like waiting for an update> sample

Had the letters faded somehow? Was it primer where the letters use to be? General Information:

How loud should the bell be?
Well, that might depend on your computer's speakers. Go to any loco's 'Sound' folder and locate the exterior SMS file (i.e., C30-7eng) Open this file with Word Pad. There are two sections where the bell sound file is referenced. In each section, just before the 'x_U_bell1.wav' reference, you will see a volume line. If it is set to .25 or .5,you can increase it to 1 for full volume. The cabview sound controller would be> 'C30-7cab', should you want to boost the bell volume in the cab.

Diesel exhaust timing
In each engine file, after the lights section, there is a line(shown below) which controls the diesels exhaust cycle rate. If you want to unify all your DW locomotives, so that they appear to rev up the same, make sure this line on all your locomotives is withing a range of 250 to 350 (for DW locomotives) DieselEngineIdleRPM( 310 )
