UP 2755, ex-SP8679, ex HLCX 3166, ex-SOU 3166

This engine has been around the bend, several times. It was built in 1970, as SOUTHERN #3166 (high-hood SD45), then wore an HLC(HLCX) patch for awhile. After that, it ceased being an SD45. The M K rebuild program gave it a new life(and a new prime mover-1994) as an SD40M-2, which is when it became SP #8679. That's the last time it ever looked like a new engine. Acquired and patched, it apparently worked all over the U.P. system.

So, now it's sitting in Denver, with it's paint still peeling away(since its SP days), and presently being abused by the spray painting punks, but don't despair, this engine's good days are still coming. Most likely, it will be sent to Little Rock, and rebuilt for UP service.
